Katara to Korra: Aang’s time has passed. My brother and many of my friends are gone. It’s time for you and your generation to take on the responsibility of keeping peace and balance in the world. And I think you’re going to be a great Avatar.

BRB CRYING

This brief Korra scene devastated me more than I thought it would.  Hearing an old Katara say that Aang, Sokka, and most of her friends (likely Toph and Zuko) are all dead now hit me like a brick wall- especially since I just re-watched all of the Avatar episodes.  Thinking of all the characters as their young selves that we all came to know and love only to realize that they’re all gone in this new series makes me feel like I just found out a close relative died.

It’s also the fact that Katara’s lost her husband, her brother, and those closest to her and yet she still lives on.  It’s the fact that she doesn’t seem pained or bitter about being the only one left.  It’s the fact that she’s willing to help the new Avatar in an unspoken friendship that’s transcended time, beginning with her friendship with Aang.  It’s the fact that she bids Korra farewell with a smile, one that you can easily imagine a younger Katara giving.

So much respect for Katara right now.  Also, brb tearbending.
